Meet the Family

Christine Baskin, Owner/Director

meet-the-family-christine-baskin2Christine and her three children (Katie, Annabelle and Mac) continue the legacy of this family-run Camp that, since its 1993 inception, has provided a blend of activities that are both educational and fun. A graduate of Southern Methodist University and Ursuline Academy in Dallas, Christine is actively involved in every facet of Camp.

Christine helps with counselor recruitment from colleges and universities in addition to adding her energy and talents to all activity and event programming at Camp Balcones Springs. Further, she helps to plan camper recruiting events throughout Texas and beyond. Christine also owns and operates The Retreat at Balcones Springs, which utilizes Camp’s facilities in the off-season and makes possible some of Camp’s most desirable features, like air-conditioned cabins. Christine’s vision is to create an experience for campers that they simply cannot find anywhere else.

Jeremy Jenkins, Boys Camp Director

Jeremy is entering his fifth summer at Camp Balcones Springs and third summer as Boys’ Camp Director. Jeremy graduated from Louisiana College in 2011 with a degree in Business Management. Since the summer of 2012, Jeremy has worked as a counselor and compound head for Camp Balcones Springs, as well as an event manager for The Retreat at Balcones Springs. Jeremy’s love for sports, the outdoors, and most importantly, camper and counselor relationships, is what has kept him at CBS. He is very excited to continue his service to camp, and he looks forward to many more summers to come.

Katie Milam, Girls Camp Director

Katie is beginning her time with Camp Balcones Springs as the Girls Camp Director.  She is originally from North Carolina but is quickly becoming a Texan and a part of the CBS family! In 2013, Katie graduated from Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL, with a degree in Sport Management and Youth Ministry.  She has several years of camping experience, working in multiple countries with YoungLife camping. Most recently Katie spent the past two years working at YoungLife’s Malibu Club in Canada. Katie brings with her a passion for sports, kids, building relationships, and service. She is excited to continue using her passions in a much warmer climate this summer!


Daniel Mataya, Activities Director

Daniel has been involved with Camp Balcones Springs in some capacity for five years. Daniel graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, with a degree in Business in 2014, where he also played collegiate basketball. He first came to CBS in the summer of 2012, when he joined the staff as a counselor before serving as Head of Sports the following summer. After graduating, Daniel began working full-time at CBS as the Activities Director. Now approaching his third summer on full-time staff, he spends the off-season dreaming of Camp’s theme nights and coaching high school basketball in Austin. He believes in the core mission of Camp Balcones Springs and values it’s impact on campers and staff.


Katie Jones, High School Programs Director

This is Katie’s first summer at Camp Balcones Springs but her fourteenth year in the camping world. She graduated from the University of Virginia in 2014 with a B.A. in Systemic Sustainability and went on to work in San Francisco and then in Austin. She joined the CBS team in the spring of 2016 as the Director of High School Programs. Katie has worked as a counselor and on the leadership staff for other Texas camps and also has experience taking high school campers on backpacking and leadership trips in Texas and Colorado. She loves working with kids of all ages and looks forward to instilling camp’s values in our young adults!

Kelli Sweat, Waterfront Director

Kelli has called Camp Balcones Springs her home since 2007, when she first began serving as the camp photographer on our summer leadership staff. Upon completing her Agricultural Leadership and Development degree from Texas A&M University, she began her time as an event manager for The Retreat. During the summers, Kelli has held many roles at Camp, including photographer, scheduler, camp store manager, and Director of High School Programs. Kelli is currently serving as our Waterfront Director. Kelli is a trained lifeguarding instructor and has worked on both our private lake and Lake Travis during her nine years at CBS. She is looking forward to this new role and continuing to build relationships with campers and counselors while promoting both fun and safety. Camp Balcones Springs is the perfect place for Kelli to share her heart for people and passion for service.

Connie McCoy, Office Administrator

Connie has been a part of the Camp Balcones Springs full-time staff since 2008. She started out as the Housekeeping Supervisor for the Retreat before stepping into her current role as Camp Office Administrator. Connie is the proud mother of three children who have all attended CBS. Her favorite part about camp is seeing the excitement and joy on a first-time camper’s face and knowing that they are about to have an amazing experience!

Marietta Johnson, Founding Director

Marietta is an educator, parent, grandparent, devoted Christian, and avid lover of smiles and laughter. She has the rare ability to find exactly what makes every youngster special. Her background in Christian camping began over 30 years ago and reflects her commitment and love for kids and summer camping. A graduate from Stanford University, Marietta has taught at St. Marks School of Dallas since 1973, and she has spent each of the past 23 summers with Camp Balcones Springs!
