Christine and her three children (Katie, Annabelle and Mac) continue the legacy of this family-run Camp that, since its 1993 inception, has provided a blend of activities that are both educational and fun. A graduate of Southern Methodist University and Ursuline Academy in Dallas, Christine is actively involved in every facet of Camp.

Christine helps with counselor recruitment from colleges and universities in addition to adding her energy and talents to all activity and event programming at Camp Balcones Springs. Further, she helps to plan camper recruiting events throughout Texas and beyond. Christine also owns and operates The Retreat at Balcones Springs, which utilizes Camp’s facilities in the off-season and makes possible some of Camp’s most desirable features, like air-conditioned cabins. Christine’s vision is to create an experience for campers that they simply cannot find anywhere else.

Christine, your passion for what you do at CBS and for CBS is reflected in our children. I’m sure there must be times that you doubt what you are doing but I hope you will continue on. CBS is a special little place and has so much to offer children… especially these days. I can’t thank you and your staff enough for the gifts and values you have given our precious children. I hope that CBS continues to grow and is successful. We will always be there to help make that happen in any way we can. Please don’t hesitate to ask.

Jeremy Jenkins

Boys Camp Director

Jeremy has been with Camp Balcones Springs since 2012. He graduated from Louisiana College in 2011 with a degree in Business Management. Jeremy has worked as a counselor and on our leadership staff since the summer of 2012. His love for sports, the outdoors, and most importantly, camper and counselor relationships, is what has kept him at CBS.

Jeremy loves to talk with parents about baseball, but he also does a great job answering questions about camp.

Helen Duncum

Girls Camp Director

Helen joined the Camp Balcones Springs family in 2020! Helen started working in camping in 2009, transitioning from counselor to leadership to full-time staff. Helen spent four years on full-time staff at a camp in the Hill Country before moving to Lubbock, TX where she spent three years in the non-profit sector, working for a youth arts organization. What started as a fun summer job blossomed into a lifelong passion for youth development and fostering connections with campers and counselors alike. Helen is originally from Cypress, TX and attended the University of Texas at Austin where she majored in Youth & Community Studies. Helen has the incredible ability to meet campers where they are, encourage them, and inspire them to grow.

Her vast knowledge of working with campers and counselors makes her the perfect person to talk to about the Camp Balcones Springs experience.

Jacob Groves

Activities Director

Jacob joined our counselor staff in 2010. After graduating from Abilene Christian University in 2013, he worked for Disney Cruise Lines in their Family Activities department. He and his wife, who also worked for Disney Cruise Lines, met on the Disney Dream. They have a son that was born in 2019 named Salvador “Chava” Groves. In October 2019, Jacob and Marisol returned to Camp Balcones Springs. Jacob enjoys being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. His passion for Christian camp and getting away from technology are the reasons why he loves Camp Balcones Springs.

Emilie Stagoski

High School Programs Director

Emilie is a St. Louis native that graduated from Missouri State University with a degree in Global Studies. She has worked at summer camps in Texas since 2015. Her experience working in the adventure department and forming relationships with her high school age campers makes her an amazing member of the camp family. Emilie worked with international high school students in a boarding school program prior to coming to Camp Balcones Springs. Her passions include travel, outdoor activities, and she will never turn down the chance to play a game of soccer.

Marietta Johnson

Founding Director

Marietta is an educator, parent, grandparent, devoted Christian, and avid lover of smiles and laughter. She has the rare ability to find exactly what makes every youngster special. Her commitment to Christian camping began over 30 years ago, and her love for children is undeniable. Marietta, a graduate from Stanford University, has been teaching at St. Marks School of Dallas since 1973, and at Camp Balcones Springs since the beginning!
