Christine Baskin

Christine and her three children (Katie, Annabelle and Mac) continue the legacy of this family-run Camp that, since its 1993 inception, has provided a blend of activities that are both educational and fun. A graduate of Southern Methodist University and Ursuline Academy in Dallas, Christine is actively involved in every facet of Camp.

Christine helps with counselor recruitment from colleges and universities in addition to adding her energy and talents to all activity and event programming at Camp Balcones Springs. Further, she helps to plan camper recruiting events throughout Texas and beyond. Christine also owns and operates The Retreat at Balcones Springs, which utilizes Camp’s facilities in the off-season and makes possible some of Camp’s most desirable features, like air-conditioned cabins. Christine’s vision is to create an experience for campers that they simply cannot find anywhere else.

Christine, your passion for what you do at CBS and for CBS is reflected in our children. I’m sure there must be times that you doubt what you are doing but I hope you will continue on. CBS is a special little place and has so much to offer children… especially these days. I can’t thank you and your staff enough for the gifts and values you have given our precious children. Bre Boyd

Office Manager

A newcomer to CBS (and Texas!), Bre brings with her a degree in Business Management and a Swiss Army Knife of administrative talent. Originally from Pennsylvania, Bre moved to Texas for her education and is here to stay!

Although Bre is new to camp, she loves the outdoors – especially the beach – and animals, both of which are abundant here at CBS. Bre is excited to bring her management savvy to a non-corporate environment and is eager to be a part of an organization that aims to create fun, meaningful, and impactful experiences for children. She can’t wait to meet you and your family!

Andrew Daeger

Boys Camp Director

Andrew is a “camp guy” through and through. Before joining the CBS team, Andrew spent five summers working at Camp Timberlake, a traditional boys summer camp in North Carolina. Like many of our other full-time staff, Andrew transitioned from counselor to program staff before eventually becoming a full-time program director and intern.

Andrew graduated in 2018 from Hungtington University in Indiana alongside his now-wife, Adrienne. As the oldest of five siblings, Andrew embodies the “older brother” personality and is extremely passionate about youth development and mentoring. Andrew is excited to lead not only campers but also the staff of Boys Camp counselors and Leadership Team under his direction. Andrew believes camp kids build social skills and healthy habits that will live with them long into their adult lives, and the opportunity to provide that experience to young people gets him fired up.

Helen Duncum

Girls Camp Director

Helen joined the Camp Balcones Springs family in 2020! Helen started working in camping in 2009, transitioning from counselor to leadership to full-time staff. Helen spent four years on full-time staff at Camp Lonehollow in the Texas Hill Country before moving to Lubbock, TX where she spent three years in the non-profit sector, working for a youth arts organization. What started as a fun summer job blossomed into a lifelong passion for youth development and fostering connections with campers and counselors alike. Helen is originally from Cypress, TX and attended the University of Texas at Austin where she majored in Youth & Community Studies. Helen has the incredible ability to meet campers and staff where they are, encourage them, and inspire them to grow.

Her vast knowledge of working with campers and counselors makes her the perfect person to talk to about the Camp Balcones Springs experience.

Antoine “Tons” Ferguson

Activities Director

Originally from The Bahamas, Tons is a 2020 graduate of Milligan University in Tennessee and was a four-year member of the school’s Track and Field team, where he holds multiple records and served as the team captain in his senior season. Tons first joined the CBS staff in 2017 as a counselor and lifeguard and has spent every summer since on the CBS staff, taking on additional leadership roles each year and serving as the CBS Sports Department Head in 2018 and as the High School Programs Co-Department Head in 2020. Before returning to camp to become our Activities Director in early 2021, Tons worked as an Assistant Track and Field Coach at his alma mater, Milligan University.

Tons brings college-level coaching experience and an educational background in occupational therapy and exercise science to the Camp Balcones Springs Activity Department. Tons is passionate about campers having not only a safe and rewarding activities experience but a fun and encouraging time as well, one in which they feel encouraged to both try new things and sharpen their current skills.

Whether your child is training for college athletics or is focused on becoming the next Picasso, Tons’ experience with elite athletic training and coaching across all levels of development makes him the perfect person to talk to about how to get the most out of your child’s activities experience at CBS.

Tiffany Janke

Horseback Director

Tiffany joined the Camp Balcones Springs family in early 2020! Tiffany was born and raised in Leon Valley, on the northwest side of San Antonio. She graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Business and Management from Texas State University. In 2017, Tiffany and her husband, Thomas, moved to Alpine, Texas where she worked for Sul Ross State University managing their livestock and equine programs. During this time, Tiffany completed her master’s degree in Agriculture with a concentration in Animal Nutrition. In April of 2020, Tiffany returned to the Hill Country as the Horseback Director at CBS. Joining Tiffany and Thomas at camp are their two dogs, Little Bit and Daisy, and three horses, Belle, Nala, and Dally. Tiffany loves being back in central Texas and looks forward to meeting many more new and returning campers. Her goal is to make the Horseback Program the best it has ever been!

Tiffany’s depth of knowledge, certifications, teaching experience, and ability to make any rider comfortable makes her the perfect person to ask about our year-round Horseback programs!

Marietta Johnson

Founding Director

Marietta is an educator, parent, grandparent, devoted Christian, and avid lover of smiles and laughter. She has the rare ability to find exactly what makes every youngster special. Her commitment to Christian camping began over 30 years ago, and her love for children is undeniable. Marietta, a graduate from Stanford University, has been teaching at St. Marks School of Dallas since 1973, and at Camp Balcones Springs since the beginning!
