Welcome Term 4!

Greetings from the first day and a half of Term 4!

Campers are already fast at work perfecting their skills at CBS’ newest game – pickleball! The sport combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and traditional tennis and is all the rage here at camp.

While pickleball may be a new CBS tradition, we’ve still got some old ones too – like the cup-stacking feats of our Work Crew! Every summer (and every term), Work Crew campers entertain themselves “on the job” by seeing who can balance the tallest cup stack while bussing tables in our Rio Grande Dining Hall. On Monday, we set a CBS world record (pictured below)! One camper from Sul Ross Cabin declared himself a “cup-stacking” apprentice, assisting the Work Crew in this feat and perhaps training for a record of his own in the future.

Hot summer days like we’ve been having in Texas mean campers can’t wait to spend an activity period at Lake Ted. Many campers jumped off The Blob for the first time on Monday. Meanwhile, returning campers are thrilled to try out our new lake toy – the Chaos!

Monday night’s evening program was our space-themed “Blast Off” dance and activity night. An astronomer helped campers examine the clear skies for recognizable planets and stars. Some campers were able to spot the rings of Saturn and the four moons of Jupiter! (We wish we could send a picture.) Campers also got to jump around and play inside cosmic inflatables, and many engaged in several rounds of “Asteroid Dodgeball.” The night was also filled with an array of intergalactic snacks and drinks, spacey music, and a constant lookout for shooting stars.
