We have been enjoying dreamy weather out at Camp Balcones Springs, with cool, breezy mornings, no mosquitoes, and wonderful cloud cover. We are so thankful for the cooler summer temperatures – up to 20 degrees cooler than last summer at this time!

Tuesday night (yes, Tuesday tonight!) was Compound Night! All boy and girl campers spread out around camp and enjoyed different evening programs unique to each age group.

B Compound took part in an action-packed Compound Night, starting with building forts from cardboard and tape on the soccer field. After building their respective kingdoms, the boys engaged in a lively battle using water balloons and water guns to defend their creations. The competition was fierce, with the goal of being the last cabin standing with the best fort. Webb Cabin did not disappoint as they came out victorious with their state-of-the-art design! The evening concluded with delicious ice cream and a fun slip ‘n slide, making it an unforgettable night for our B Compounders.

C Compound Night was a fun-filled circus-themed event filled with games like bowling, pin the tail on the donkey, ball toss, and more. After the girls played the games, they won money which they were able to exchange for prizes, popcorn, and cotton candy. All the kids had such an amazing time filled with dancing, singing, and laughter, just like a real circus!

The Senior Campers had their compound night in the Arts & Crafts shed. There, they had to solve an escape room, which included seven different rooms. Their goal? Find a “cure” to save Camp Balcones Springs from a looming zombie apocalypse. Etta, our F Compound head, tasked our Senior Campers with solving a variety of puzzles, including unscrambling words in a letter, figuring out a Wordle, and ciphering a code. Fortunately, the Senior Campers were able to crack the code, and CBS was saved from the zombie apocalypse! To celebrate their accomplishment, they enjoyed some delicious ice cream sundaes!

Wednesday at camp was a rainy day, which is always a special occurrence at camp because it means a) our lakes are staying full and b) everyone gets to partake in special programming we don’t normally do that makes for long-lasting camp memories! We switched up our schedule to accommodate rainy day games, and Boys Camp had an absolute blast. They kicked off the evening with a Boy’s Cookout, feasting on delicious all-beef hot dogs and pita pizzas. The excitement peaked with our famous chili cook-off, where they got creative with wild ingredients like Oreos and soy sauce — a fan favorite for sure! The night wrapped up with a cozy movie, and everyone was safely shuttled back to their cabins just in time to dodge the rain. What an amazing night for Boys Camp!

Meanwhile, after an afternoon of rainy day games, all of girls camp showered and put on their cutest pjs for Women’s Dinner! Girl campers and counselors danced the night away in the Rio while enjoying a beautiful spread of fresh strawberries, shrimp, egg rolls, and charcuterie boards! Each cabin was able to submit their orders for personalized cabin pizzas made-to-order with toppings of their choice. After a wonderful dessert, the girls ended the night in the Grid Iron with a movie.

Tomorrow’s forecast looks clear – but the temperatures will remain cool and mild with a high of only 84 degrees!
