This past week has featured some amazing evening programs at Camp Balcones Springs, taking us across the pond for Olympic celebrations and into the storybook wonders of a classic movie – all in one week!
From Nutella crepes to a French fry bar to an illuminated Eiffel Tower, Paris with a side of CBS felt truly magical! We danced the night away for this special event in the Grid Iron and enjoyed an array of Parisian inspired games like scooter racing in the Olympic Village, mime face painting, mini Eiffel Tower-making (with yummy wafer cookies and icing), and even a fear factor challenge with obscure foods you would likely see in a French bistro!
As campers entered into the dance waltzing over the red carpet, as they would during fashion week, the rain began to come down. However, that didn’t stop the fun! Soon after, a dance circle broke out under the covered GridIron, and it turned out to be a truly magical night!
This week, Camp Balcones Springs campers followed the yellow brick road to the land of Oz (the Thicket) for our Wizard of Oz theme night!! The evening featured Dorothy’s house in Kansas, a tornado of cotton candy, Glenda’s magical land and bubbles, a rainbow over emerald city, and even a DJ scarecrow! We screened the original movie for campers to watch, had a special appearance from the Horse of a Different Color painted as Dorothy, and an opportunity for boys and girls to defeat the Wicked Witch of the West in the Dunk Tank. Campers used costumes to transform themselves into Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, Munchkins, and the most creative costume of all – the yellow brick road! The evening had us believing we have truly found “somewhere over the rainbow” at CBS!
