The last few days of Term 2 were packed full of absolute PHUN!
First, the campers entered the Rio Grande dining hall to a dream state, high in the clouds with neon lights and fog! The moon hung above the dance floor, and the music was heavenly! Under a spooky, dimly lit tree in the Rose Garden, campers were able to enjoy many side games like painting a starry night, enjoying a midnight snack – chicken and waffles and cereal – and making creations on light tights!
Everyone danced the night away until mission impossible interrupted their slumber! Campers were sent on missions with their cabins to help save the camp dog who had been “taken for ransom.” The first cabin to collect all of the clues and take away first place, saving the day for our beloved canine, was Driscoll Cabin!
To beat the heat over the past few days, we drove around camp throwing water balloons into activity areas to cool everyone off. We also turned on the”Chiller” in our spa pool, lowering the temperature by 10 degrees to create a refreshing swim class.
Wrapping up the last few days of camp, we had Cabin Hangout Night, where each set of cabin counselors create a unique experience specifically for their cabin. All the Senior Campers went tubing at Lake Travis followed by treats at Sonic, while Ladybird Cabin had a Dance Dance Revolution Contest on the big screen in the pavilion. Dobie Cabin played card games and Nuke ‘em on the sand volleyball court, and Johnson Cabin had a cabin food fight followed by a dip in lake ted!
After an exhilarating day of Team Competition for the Amazing Race, all of camp joined together to celebrate Rodeo Round Up on our final eve of camp. Each term, there are whispers about who is going to take who to Rodeo Round Up. Some campers ask a date, and some choose to go stag with their fellow cabin mates. Either way, this evening of line dancing under the stars at our central barn has the most lovely, wholesome vibe to it. The night feels a little bittersweet – one moment a country ballad like “Heroes & Friends” has you feeling teary about camp ending, and the next moment Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” comes on and you find yourself joyfully screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs! The night ends with a ceremonious walk back to the cabin with fireworks to light the way, allowing campers to reflect on all of their special memories from the past two weeks. We have had the most special term, and we cannot wait to have our Term 2 campers back next summer!
