Saturday night at Camp Balcones Springs was a night to remember! After a full Camp Gameday during which campers competed against each other on their camp teams, including a thrilling flag football game between the Senior Camper girls (Lone Stars versus Silver Spurs), we capped off the day with a night-time basketball game between the Senior Camper boys. The game was fast-paced, filled with full-court pressing, off-ball screens, and even some reach-in fouls, only due to the high effort at play, of course. Counselors ran a concession stand during the game for the observing campers, offering grape and cherry snow cones to stay cool. There was even half-time entertainment choreographed by our leadership and full-time staff! After a night full of action, the Texas Rangers came out on top with a final score of 25-22, defeating the Rough Riders in a nailbiter!

On Sunday, Camp Balcones Springs had our first ever daytime Mission Impossible! Mission Impossible, a surprise event at camp that interrupts a scheduled activity with a special game campers play to win a prize and “save” camp from some sort of spy, typically happens during an evening activity. This term, however, we caught campers completely off guard by interrupting our daytime programming instead!

This term’s MI was the most messy Mission Impossible to date. Campers were tasked with helping save our beloved dog Lola from “spies” who were infiltrating camp. Each compound had a cornucopia, a place where campers had the choice to arm themselves with buckets of mud, water guns, socks full of shaving cream, or pool noodles with paint on them. Campers had to “earn” their maps to find their first glow stick by playing a guess-who game with buckets placed within their compound. To get their second glow stick, each cabin had to solve a riddle on our sand volleyball court. In order to get their third glow stick, cabins had to slip ‘n slide through a tarp covered in paint on the soccer field! After their mission was complete, campers got to take a dip at the Low Line to rinse off and celebrate a successful rescuing of Lola!

Last but certainly not least – this week Camp Balcones Springs celebrated the wedding of our two precious pups, Leo and Lettie!
