Term 1, Week 1 has wrapped, and we can’t believe how much fun we’ve had already!
First, some activity highlights ….
In our jewelry-making activity, campers made freshwater pearl rings by hand! Each camper sized her own ring and learned how to shape and twist the wire just right. It was a thoughtful, creative project — and everyone left with a beautiful ring to keep and wear with pride.
Meanwhile in Survival Skills, campers worked with instructor Mr. Adams to master an array of outdoor skills. Boys and girls built tripods for use in purifying water, cooking, and shelter building, constructed emergency fishing traps, and learned how to navigate using cardinal directions and distance-estimating via compass.
The week concluded with some of our tried and true camp traditions! Thursday night at Camp Balcones Springs, we hosted our highly sought-after Women’s Dinner, a night of delicious food – like sauteed shrimp, pot stickers, and made-to-order gourmet pizza – dancing and singing, a sunset movie, and an inspirational and empowering talk from our Girls Camp Director.Meanwhile, Boys Camp roasted hot dogs on Balcones Beach, swam in Lake Ted, and had a chili cook-off!
On Friday, boys and girls camps swapped places, as the women took to Balcones Beach to enjoy grilled hot dogs, pita pizzas, and S’mores, and participated in a chili cook-off of their own.
Back at our Rio Grande Dining Hall, boys camp devoured ribs, baked chicken, and delicious bread. After dinner, they had an epic food fight with cabbage and lettuce and then played a capture the flag game before winding down with showers, pajamas, and a movie.
