Term 3 Endings

Term 3 wrapped up with all of the special events and traditions that mark the successful close of one summer and start the countdown for the next!

On Thursday, boys and girls split up into their respective teams for Spirit Team Comp, in which campers perform creative routines and cheers for our judges in order to earn points for the term-long sport competition. This year, the Spurs came out with a bang and brought out some Silver Spur and Rough Rider legends, including Cate Pal-Freeman, Stefan Goldman, Erin Dunn, and Sebastian Grannen – all former team sponsors! They also initiated camp pup Choco into Spur/Rider nation.

That night campers gathered in their cabin groups for Cabin Hangout Night, during which campers spend dedicated time together with their fellow bunkmates and counselors on one of the last nights of the term, solidifying their friendships and reflecting on the wonderful memories they have made together over the past few weeks. Each set of counselors spends several days planning a unique actitivity for their cabin, reserving certain spots of camp and sometimes even requesting special supplies or treats be brought in to carry out their vision for the evening. Some highlights from Term 3 Cabin Hangout include baseball under the stadium lights with SFA Cabin, a Taylor Swift baking party in the kitchen with Jordan Cabin, and night synchronized swimming for Goodnight Cabin!

On Friday, everyone gathered for the camp-wide Amazing Race, a multi-event competition in which every camper participates in an effort to win the entire Team Comp term award for their team (Rough Riders & Silver Spurs or Texas Rangers & Lone Stars). The race started off with a Spurs/Riders one-second lead. The blue and purple held the lead until the scooter races when the Rangers and Lonestars made a comeback, going on to win the entire race and take the term!

Finally, that night, all of camp joined together to celebrate Rodeo Round Up on our final eve of camp. Each term, there are whispers about who is going to take who to Rodeo Round Up. Some campers ask for a date, and some choose to go stag with their fellow cabin mates. Either way, this evening of line dancing under the stars at our central barn has the most lovely, wholesome vibe to it. The night feels a little bittersweet – one moment a country ballad like “Heroes & Friends” has you feeling teary about camp ending, and the next moment Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” comes on and you find yourself joyfully screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs! The night ends with a ceremonious walk back to the cabin with fireworks to light the way, allowing campers to reflect on all of their special memories from the past three weeks.

We have had the most special term, and we cannot wait to have our Term 3 campers back next summer!
