At camp, we are proud of our nutritious and diverse meals that fuel your campers! Take a look at our menus of the day!
We start our day strong with breakfast!
In addition to our daily selections of creamy oatmeal and toppings, fresh fruit medley, a toast bar, and scrambled eggs with salsa and cheddar, every morning at breakfast we serve featured breakfast menu items! Wednesday, your campers enjoyed:
We refuel midday with lunch!
For lunch, we always have a salad bar, sandwich station, and buttered noodles open to our campers! Additionally, they enjoyed:
We round out the day with dinner! On Thursday, our campers had dinner at our Women’s Dinner and Boys’ Cookout! Take a look at our evening program highlight below for more phun info.
Every morning after breakfast, our campers start their day off with Team Competition, AKA “Team Comp”. This friendly competition includes games like kickball, mini soccer, O-Ball, Nuke Em, and Steal the Bacon. The winners of each game earn their respective teams (Rough Riders and Silver Spurs vs. Texas Rangers and Lone Stars) points toward a head start for our highly anticipated Amazing Race at the end of the term.
Our current team competition score is:
Texas Rangers and Lonestars: 12
Rough Riders and Silver Spurs: 11
The Texas Rangers and Lonestars pull ahead just barely for the 4th day of camp!
Another feature of camp that makes CBS so special is our Performing Arts Company! We just began rehearsals for our annual term musical. The musical for Term 2 is Matilda! Campers get the opportunity to try something new or continue to grow their passion for singing and acting. They can either act on stage while learning the power in their own voice, or run the show behind the scenes! They play fun games, learn to embody their characters, and get closer as a cast. Every Camper at Camp Baclones Springs has so much talent and passion just waiting to be unlocked!
Here at CBS, the first Thursday of every term is one of the most anticipated nights of camp. For this special evening program, Girls Camp and Boys Camp split up for two beloved traditions: Women’s Dinner and Boys’ Cookout. Both nights are full of phun, traditions, and serve as comforting cornerstones of our campers’ experience year after year!
Women’s Dinner
For Women’s Dinner, Girls Camp arrives freshly showered and in pajamas, ready for a night of luxury, sisterhood, dancing, and a movie.
Campers are welcomed by our Leadership Team, who cheer them on as they walk through the doors, get their pictures taken, and find their seats under a Rio lit by twinkle lights. Each table is set with linens, tiara, and our finest cutlery.
Each cabin gets called up to our buffet, overflowing with colorful platters of bruschetta, flatbreads, shrimp cocktail, mozzarella sticks, strawberry watermelon and mint salad, charcuterie skewers, and pizza pockets. Each table is also brought caesar salad and two custom pizzas of their choosing. And of course, no Women’s Dinner is complete without Christine’s Famous Drink, a camp-favorite punch made with cranberry juice, apple juice, orange juice, ginger ale, and pineapple juice.
Throughout the night, our Leadership and Full-Time teams serve the girls, making sure they feel celebrated from start to finish. To end the meal, each table receives its own “dirt” dessert, a flower pot full of chocolate ice cream, Oreo crumbles, gummy worms, and a flower, delivered by Leadership and Full-Time while performing a kickline to “Be Our Guest”
After dinner, the girls danced to favorites including “Love Story” and “Dancing Queen” before hearing from our Girls Camp Director, Abbie Duffy, who spoke about the unique strengths, gifts, and confidence each of our girls carries with them. They ended the night with a surprise movie, Ella Enchanted, before heading back to their cabins.
Boys’ Cookout
While our girls enjoyed Women’s Dinner, our boys headed down to the beach for Boys’ Cookout! The evening was full of swimming, time with friends, and classic cookout food including hot dogs, pita pizzas, s’mores, and most importantly, chili.
The highlight of Boys’ Cookout is always the chili cook-off. Campers split into 5 groups, each tasked with crafting the best chili by adding a cornucopia of spices and ingredients to the same chili base. Popular chili additions include Goldfish, Dr. Pepper, and m&ms. At the end of the night, our male Leadership and Full-Time staff taste each chili and choose a winner!
Last night’s winning chili kept the judges coming back for more with notable flavors of lime and black pepper.
And in true camp fashion, there is also an award for worst chili. This year, Work Crew took home the title with a very bold recipe featuring lemon chunks with peels, Tabasco, cayenne powder, charcoal dust, and somehow, sand. Their prize? Helping clean up the event. Thank you, Work Crew!
From tiaras and dancing to campfires and chili, Women’s Dinner and Boys’ Cookout were once again a favorite night of the term for campers, and a reminder of the traditions that make CBS feel like home.
