Every morning after breakfast, our campers start their day off with Team Competition, AKA “Team Comp”. This friendly competition includes games like kickball, mini soccer, O-Ball, Nuke Em, and Steal the Bacon. The winners of each game earn their respective teams (Rough Riders and Silver Spurs vs. Texas Rangers and Lone Stars) points toward a head start for our highly anticipated Amazing Race at the end of the term.
Our current team competition score is:
Texas Rangers and Lonestars: 32
Rough Riders and Silver Spurs: 16
The Texas Rangers and Lonestars maintain their lead!
There’s a reason Tubing on Travis has been the FAVORITE activity here at camp for 34 summers… it is the perfect combination of what makes camp unforgettable!
1st - It is almost always hot in Texas during the summer so plunging into fresh, frothy, and cold Lake Travis is ideal.
2nd - Holding on to an inner tube requires some skill and perseverance, but not too much, so almost every camper succeeds (at least for a moment). And, our boat drivers have been trained to drive fast enough to make every wake and twist thrilling and memory-filled, but not too scary!
3rd - CBS is blessedly located on the far northwestern bend of the magnificent Lake Travis. There is very little development and rarely another vessel seen. Instead, campers interact with longmouth bass, water fowl, hawks, and even the endangered golden-cheeked warbler.
4th - A successful tube and/or banana boat ride requires teamwork. Two to seven campers must effectively communicate with one another as to when to lean right, left, or just release and fall hysterically into the lake!
On Wednesday night, our campers settled in for a relaxing evening and a favorite night here at CBS: Movie Night! We laid tarps across the hill by the Meadow, just outside of the Gridiron, and campers set up camp with pillows, blankets, and sleeping bags covering the hillside. Before the movie began, campers enjoyed two camp classic Movie Night skits: “If I Weren’t a CBSer” performed by our Work Crew and “The Movie Theater,” performed by our wonderful counselors!
Then, the tapes rolled and the surprise movie was revealed. This term’s movie was Teen Beach Movie! Campers watched the big screen as the sun set, getting called up cabin by cabin to enjoy popcorn, sodas, and a nacho bar. We even had a special VIP section for Ladybird cabin, who won the prize at Counselor Hunt, complete with red velvet ropes, an inflatable pool, bean bags, and a busboy.
After the movie ended, campers headed to bed with the promise of a sleep-in day the next morning! A night well spent!
