Rough Riders and Silver Spurs: 17

Featured Activity Highlight - Yoga

Here at CBS, we offer yoga class for campers as a minor activity dedicated to wellness, restoration, and refueling! Here are some words from our Yoga instructor on her class experience:

“Through my brand, Kitsune Yoga, I teach a modern Vinyasa style that’s approachable, creative, and grounded in mindful movement. My classes combine thoughtful sequencing, breath, and music, including playlists featuring Japanese artists, to create an experience that feels engaging and intentional. I aim to make yoga accessible for people of different experience levels, offering space to build strength, improve mobility, and reconnect with themselves. My goal is for students to leave class feeling more balanced, confident, and present than when they arrived.”

Evening Program Highlight - Midnight Jungle

Welcome to the CBS Jungle!

One of the most revered night activities at Camp Balcones Springs is our Rio Dance. Every summer, we take this camp classic and bring it to life with a fresh theme, complete with decorations, snacks, side games, and plenty of dancing. Last night, we hosted this summer’s adaptation: Midnight Jungle!

This Rio was transformed for the night, black paper covered the walls and windows, neon jungle decor in every corner, and vines draped from the ceiling. A DJ stage stood at the front of the room, complete with a roaring jungle waterfall, ferns, vines and a few jungle friends, including inflatable parrots, an elephant, and a leopard. Garland covered the ceiling, rainbow strobe lights and disco balls lit up the room, and our campers danced their hearts out including to some of our favorite camp dance classics.

Outside of the Rio, campers had plenty of ways to keep the phun going. They played vintage arcade games, made paper chain snakes, got jungle animal face paint, competed in the elephant trunk game, played corn hole, built Light brites, braved “What’s in the Box”, and even enjoyed an abbreviated showing of the blockbuster jungle classic, Jumanji. To top it off, campers enjoyed “Monkey Pudding” and chocolate cupcakes decorated with gummy snake candy.

A perfect blend of neon lights, jungle vines, themed side games, and dancing, Midnight Jungle was a night full of energy, laughter, and plenty of PHUN! We cannot wait for your campers to share all about their walk on the wild side!
