Every morning after breakfast, our campers start their day off with Team Competition, AKA “Team Comp”. This friendly competition includes games like kickball, mini soccer, O-Ball, Nuke Em, and Steal the Bacon. The winners of each game earn their respective teams (Rough Riders and Silver Spurs vs. Texas Rangers and Lone Stars) points toward a head start for our highly anticipated Amazing Race at the end of the term.
Our current team competition score is:
Texas Rangers and Lonestars: 21
Rough Riders and Silver Spurs: 25
The Rough Riders and Silver Spurs continue to maintain their lead!
Here at CBS, we love to celebrate Christmas in July! A beloved tradition, we even had 8 iconic camp alumni visit to make the festivities unforgettable!
Campers awoke to stockings from Santa full of goodies in their cabins! They then headed to breakfast to see the Rio decked head to toe in red and green, paper snowflakes, garland, string lights, and cheer. At team competition, “Reindeer Games” replaced regularly scheduled games, with campers competing in Sleigh Racing, Ice Hockey, Steal the Present, Blizzard, Elf Soccer, and Hot Cocoa Stacking.
Throughout the day, campers enjoyed regularly scheduled activities with a twist! Santa’s elves traveled around to activities, delivering candy canes, Christmas accessories, and bringing festive mini games and music along with them!
For Phunanza, campers enjoyed “Christmas Corner” at the beach, complete with Christmas tunes, a shaving cream snow ball fight, a shaving cream covered slide, Christmas cookie decorating, and more!
To end the festivities, Flag Pole featured a nativity scene to remind us of the true meaning of Christmas!
What a special and festive day!
The weekend at CBS means it’s time for our teams to face off in the ultimate test of athleticism, second only to the Amazing Race of course. This weekend we hosted a fan favorite: Night Team Comp.
On Saturday night, our senior camper boys took the court for Night Team Competition, playing Rough Riders vs. Texas Rangers under the bright lights of the Hippodrome. Campers gathered around in true game-day fashion, dressed in team colors, holding signs, and cheering until the final countdown.
Our announcers, Pato Albitos (Activities Director), and Shepherd Scimemi (Boys Camp Director), kept the crowd on the edge of their seats as snow cones and popcorn were passed out from the sidelines. After a close game the Rough Riders took the win, earning their team an additional 3 points toward the term score.
And as the final buzzer sounded, our Leadership and Full-Time team took to the court with a special dance to Santa Clause is Coming to Town! The dance even featured guest appearances from both Santa Clause and The Grinch, all merry and bright, until… The Grinch kidnapped Santa Clause!!
A Christmas disaster! And then, the lights cut out and Mission Impossible music filled the space! That’s right, a Christmas Mission Impossible! The mission? Saving Santa and saving Christmas!
Our campers dashed back to their cabins, threw on their camo garb, and set out around camp to find and capture glow sticks in order to save CBS from invaders! Our winning cabin was Betticheck!
After completing their mission, all campers enjoyed ice pops before heading to bed! A night well spent!
