Horseback Riding

A Life-Changing, Unplugged Experience Where Kids Make Friends And Try New Things

1, 2, & 3 Week Sessions, Starting at $2,070

Meet our Horseback Director

April Baxter

April started riding horses as a child after she was diagnosed with scoliosis of the spine and never looked back! What was originally a therapeutic activity for her became a way of life. She now owns two Spanish Andalusians and in her spare time enjoys trail riding and competing with them.

April has extensive experience in leading youth horse programs at camps, working previously at Camp LoneHollow and multiple YoungLife camps. She has an equine certification in both English and western disciplines and has taught and competed in endurance, dressage, English and western pleasure, polocrosse, jumping, natural horsemanship, and competitive trail riding. She is thrilled to be able to share the joy of horses — both in riding and caring for them — with campers.

About our Horseback Program…

At CBS we give campers a complete horseback experience. Campers are matched with their “horse partner” for the term. They enjoy a connection with their horse as they build confidence and feel comfortable in the saddle.

Our small classes combined with attentive instructors give each camper the personal attention tailored to their needs. They gain the necessary skills to enjoy the pleasure of being able to care for their horse with confidence. We want them to enjoy riding but also the communication and relationship with their horse. They have opportunities to spend time with their horse by giving them a bath and a treat at the end of the class. They learn many horse facts and tips on horse care by playing horse trivia.

We offer lessons in our covered arena on experienced, safe & fun horses. Campers will groom, saddle and lead their horses as well as ride in the arena and on our trails overlooking Lake Travis. During their instruction time they will play games that refine their skills & knowledge. Some of these include jousting, mounted water gun shooting, musical stalls, horse trivia and horse bingo. We finish each term by riding the ultimate horse obstacle course and cheering them on for the skills and partnership they have developed.
