Term 4 Updates!

Greetings from Term 1! So much is happening here at camp, we don’t know where to begin! On Sunday, new campers were initiated into one of our four camp teams – The Texas Rangers and Rough Riders for the boys, and the Lone Stars and Silver Spurs for the girl campers. Campers will participate in daily competitions with their teams throughout the term, learning cheers and gearing up to compete in our end-of-term Amazing Raze event. We’ve also been staying cool despite dining outside – our misters are doing the trick! Meanwhile, several campers looking to avoid the heat have... Read more.

Welcome Term 4!

Greetings from the first day and a half of Term 4! Campers are already fast at work perfecting their skills at CBS’ newest game – pickleball! The sport combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and traditional tennis and is all the rage here at camp. While pickleball may be a new CBS tradition, we’ve still got some old ones too – like the cup-stacking feats of our Work Crew! Every summer (and every term), Work Crew campers entertain themselves “on the job” by seeing who can balance the tallest cup stack while bussing tables in our Rio Grande Dining Hall.... Read more.

Term 3 Music Video Awards!

Wednesday evening, we celebrated the most coveted CBS event of all – the Music Video Awards! During Term 3, our only three-week term, every cabin works together to brainstorm, write, direct, and film their own music video. Campers and counselors select a song and come up with a creative storyline to go along with the music. Our talented camp videographers work hard to edit the videos according to each cabin’s creative direction. Then, the videos are viewed and judged by our Leadership and full-time teams. On the night of the MVAs, cabins get dressed up for the CBS red carpet... Read more.

Rockin' Out at Balcones City Limits!

Monday started off like no other with the Senior Camper Purge! F Compound campers dressed up and attacked camp activities with water balloons and squirt guns for a little unexpected fun. Later that day, our high school programs took part in the Camp Balcones Springs Junior Broadcast Program. The Work Crew campers were taught how to create a 30-second commercial, learning and practicing the importance of inflection when speaking. Meanwhile, the LTs were given a crash course in public speaking and debating. Campers finished up a six-hour public speaking course with a judged debate. The LTs argued passionately with each... CBS Mess Phest!

This term of camp has been full of special, unexpected events. This weekend, we introduced what is sure to become another camp classic – the CBS Mess Phest! The CBS Mess Phest (a play on the word “fest,” in typical CBS Phun Phashion) was designed to give our counseling staff an afternoon break to relax and regroup during our longest term. So while the counselors were enjoying some much-needed R and R, our leadership and full-time staff put on the event of the summer! After Oasis, campers gathered on the soccer field and Grid Iron for a bit of an... Read more.
